Blustery

Strange windy day. We have lost power 4 times in the last 24 hours. This isn’t a flicker; it’s been doing that all day but a snap and gone kind of thing. No three tries, just gone. About 90 seconds after the power dies a gust of wind will roar past the house shaking it. Wind has broken the wire from the antenna and bent the mast so no TV either. Now I am not sure I can lower the thing to the ground to fix it (the mast telescopes). I will worry about that some day w/o sheets of freezing rain. Did some work on the house, I put up a shelf. Aren’t I handy? It has just been so long since I have written about anything house related on this house themed blog so I thought I had better call attention to it.

I haven’t been sitting on my butt mind you, I wired up lights for a power chair (see my other ‘hosting’ blog) and constructed a rather crapy bunny hutch. I also built this table:

It has a natural edge on one side and a finished edge on the other. Trouble is controlling the warp on a 1-inch thick, 24-inch wide slab of maple. Since it has come inside one leg has been slowly lifting off the floor. We are at ¼ and climbing last time I checked. I know the wood is dry and I let it acclimatize in the shop for 2 months so it should be more than good but there you have it. I think it was bringing it inside where it is warm, just warpage and such. Maybe if I can get M to paint one of her erotic murals on top no one will notice.

Santa in burmudas and black socks

Nothing doing’ on the house in the last few days unless you count panicked cleaning for visiting family. “Please excuse the mess”, ha! That’s the cleanest it’s been in weeks!

Spouse has begun the annual orgy of Christmas lights. I think if she thought she could get away with it she would have a herd of moving and blinking Rudolph’s pulling a plethora of lumescent Santas cheered on by a bus load of Frosty’s. Sort of a polygamist Christmas. So far I have prevented the creation of a harem of twinkling friends but I am not sure how much longer I can hold back the tide. That girl is pretty hard core Christmas. We even have wireless switchable outlets. I can sit on the couch and turn on ‘zones’ of my twinkle lights, oh and sometimes open one of my garage doors. (Hasn’t been an issue since they broke woohoo!) Hell, when we plug in the neighbors lights dim. Come on over, localized global warming at my house, bring shorts.
