To your comments on our blog - Seattle doesn't get as cold as MT. Pipes are allowed in outside walls as well as attic spaces. If the pipes are insulated, there's no problem. In fact, the old galvanized pipes that have been up there for the last 30 plus years have a layer of newspaper draped over them and that seems to have worked fine. However, our intent is to do better.
